More than 60 years ago when we learnt by rote. There we would be as a class reciting; Ich will; du willst; er will; wir wollen; Sie wollen; Sie wollen; and so on. Still the best way of learning the basics.
When I learn a new language, I still start off with the kid's songs, the poetry, the legends, etc. As I am doing with Tagalog at present. Even at 76 years young, I am still not too proud, or too inflexible, to start off at square one. Good for getting the accent correct. Thus: To the tune of; Fly Fly Butterfly.
