I can't recall where I read it, but I seem to recall a NEA presentation that listed one of the key benefits of improved camera technologies would be the ability to fly higher and/or capture more area with one plane. I vaguely recall the scope of being able to map a state the size of California in 1 day rather than a huge number.
In terms of bottom line that will be huge in terms of reducing ongoing costs, less flights. It also might make capturing more areas quicker/easier.
