    Hi Avondale..(my birthplace in Scotland)!
As you you and the wife are over 65 and 60 respectivly, you may qualify for the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card if your combined income does not exceed $80,000 pa.
You need to download the form from Centrelink website, fill it up and take it to centrelink with your last statements of tax and income you got from the tax office.
The card is a valuable asset. Hopefully you will qualify for 1 each. It gives you discounts on all your prescription medicine as you will normally only pay $5~ each prescription. You can get a discount on your council rates and water bill. If you also have a state Seniors Card you can double the discounts. Your wife should qualiy even if you dont. GO FOR IT !
As for a state pension..I dont qualify for one, and am rather glad about that.
