If it's "very" dramatically they might be thinking the shares are heading for $10 - and quite quickly. They will be very afraid if so.
I would be very afraid if I was a shorter and I was short, but I'm well over 2m (when I stand on my wallet) so I'm not short and therefore I'm not afraid. Well, to tell the truth I'm a bit afraid in case I might miss out if the shares do go to $10 and I don't own any. I couldn't sleep last night worrying about it.
