This is a very cynical and unsophisticated understanding of human motivation.
Out in the 'real world' (i.e. not in the Hotcopper forum) do you really treat everyone you meet with such suspicion? Do you question everyone's motives? Assume everyone is out to get you and take what's yours?
I'm guessing not (if you do you're probably very lonely!) Why then do you paint people here with a different brush? Hotcopper is just a microcosm of Australian society (perhaps more educated and affluent)
