If there was anything like that going on, I'd suggest it would only have been in the desert/nomadic areas. If you think about it and realise the options they would have had - allow the babie s and toddlers to starve to death slowly, or treat them humanely.
my father worked as a stockman in the gulf in the years before WWII. He became friendly with many of the local aboriginal workers and families. So much so he was welcomed as equal. He told me on many occasions that when a baby was born and was ill or not wanted that baby was taken to the riverbank and left to die. My father had no reason to lie. He told me many times that aboriginals were fine people. Maybe not that fine though.
