That email is intriguing. CCC stock has not underperformed? Shareholders want someone to take responsibility. That part is true. He tells them that should be the tip sheet guy. And, ignore anonymous posters!
I believe the tip sheet he refers to came out in July 2010. The author had visited CCC in SA and came back with a lot of guidance which he quoted extensively in his report. Stuff like export margins $40 and domestic $14 which of course were complete fantasy and only fractions of those levels were achieved even when coal spiked. They were not his numbers though. He referenced the company very clearly. JB always had a lot to say but I don't remember him being critical at the time of the tip sheet. The tip sheet did say be careful until you find out of the details of the EDF deal are which did prove to be prescient. Albeit ignored by most. ("The Devil is in the Details", would perhaps be a good title for a book about CCC).
JB wasn't so critical back then of anonymous posters either. In fact he embraced hot copper. Called it a powerful tool from memory. Just before that tip sheet came out, in May 2010, two interesting posters joined Hotcopper on the same day, in fact within one hour of each other. They were Mihal and 5hareholder. They both went on to extrapolate CCC guidance and give billion dollar valuations that became some of the most popular hot copper posts ever. Rather than criticise those posters as he does now, JB in fact struck up a close relationship with at least one of them. Not too dissimilar to the relationship he apparently has with some of the posters on this forum.
All that stuff about related party payments. That is a long story that could be ended by JB simply outlining who was paid the tens of millions of dollars. But its really a CCC story isn't it? He didn't address the blatant pump and dump outlined on the "warning signs are there" thread which is much more relevant here. (Interestingly, speaking of anonymous, those nominee company's are registered in the Isle of Man, a jurisdiction which famously allows companies to use nominee directors to preserve anonymity. There are anons everywhere these days!).
Anyway, I will pass on to CCC holders that JB says the stocks trading ok. I suppose it makes sense and explains why he is still trying to issue more. And that any losses incurred are not due to his misrepresentations but rather the fault of the tip sheet. Perhaps some of them will apologise to him as well. Poor old JB.
