If you exercise your options, then you must keep your shares for 12 months (from the date of conversion/exercise) to qualify for the CGT discount. The 12 month period does not count from the date you acquired the options because the options and shares are a different instrument.
Example 1:
Buy options 2012. Exercise options and convert into shares in 2014. Sell shares in 2014. No CGT discount applies.
Example 2:
Buy options 2012. Sell options 2014. CGT discount applies.
