a firing squad consists of 10 soldiers.
As, always, only one of them has a live bullet in his rifle.. the other 9 have blanks and all know that only one will fire the killing shot. They are all marksmen and a miss or shot in the air would mean a court martial for that soldier.
The officer in charge , after the volley of shots, goes and put a bullet into the brain of the condemned.
