The people who think 5G is going to knock off fixed line connections don't seem to understand the technologies involved or how Moore's law will also apply to Internet speeds/data usage. Same for people who think FTTN is acceptable.
Requirements for faster Internet won't freeze in the near future. They will keep doubling every couple of years. FTTP is useful because it will continue keeping up for at least the next three or four decades. A long time after the copper is gone and after 5G is gone.
