    What the pilots want

    Quote:

2.5 per cent increases in wages each year for the next three years.
Two free of charge international economy tickets each year (upgradeable to Business and First), in addition to already heavily-discounted airfares for them and their families, and at the expense of paying customers.
That Qantas funds two full time union officials at a cost of up to $1 million per year.
Discounted membership to the Qantas Club for all pilots and their families
The claim on wages and travel would cost the airline around $150 million over the next four years.

Pilots are a vital part of Qantas and we make sure their expertise is rewarded with generous pay and conditions.

Qantas pilots are amongst the best paid in the world, receiving over 30 per cent more on average than a Virgin pilot flying similar aircraft.
The average Boeing 747 Captain earns approximately $350,000 per year (including superannuation).
The average Airbus A380 Captain earns almost $400,000 (including superannuation).
The average Qantas long-haul pilot is rostered to fly between 16-17.5 hours per week.
They receive six weeks annual leave plus 25 sick leave days per year.
They enjoy heavily discounted staff travel including upgrades to Business and First.

    What the engineers want

    Quote:

5.33 per cent increase in wages and allowances every year for the next three years.
Introduction of a time serving classification structure where workers receive additional pay increases based on years of service rather than merit or qualifications.

The remuneration package of the average licensed engineer would be in the order of $170,000 in January 2013 if we conceded the ALAEA claim.
The total cost of ALAEAs claim is $165 million - a 14.6 percent increase each year for the next three years - plus $95 million to build a new hangar.

What the baggies and caterers want

    Quote:

5 per cent increases in wages and an additional 1 per cent compulsory employer superannuation contribution over the next three years.
A requirement that all labour hire staff be paid the same high rates as Qantas permanent staff.
Restrictions on labour flexibility that would prevent Qantas from creating efficiencies and that would make Qantas less competitive (the TWU refers to this as their "job security" demand).

Last year the TWU negotiated a deal with Virgin, our biggest competitor in the domestic market, which is 12 per cent lower than Qantas rates and included a wage-freeze and a lower pay scale for new starters. Virgin also uses a non-union labour hire provider on lower rates of pay.
