Have you asked your broker whether they have a facility to trade parcels a portion at a time. I haven't yet, but I intend to. I am certainly not going to accept the answer that a marketable parcel is 500 shares.
The only way this situation might change is if enough people complain. As you say there is absolutely no rationale for large buyers to be advantaged so significantly!!!
