I don't mind hand outs where they are well deserved e.g. disability (genuine), unemployment, Austudy etc etc.
They should just design them better. One subsidy I really hate that has created a MASSIVE moral disaster is the single mother pension. This alone is a massive disaster for Australia and the governemt is too scared to scale it back for fear from a huge backlash from voters.
This subsidy started of as <100m per annum and was meant to help single mothers support a child through school etc. Works well in theory. It is now a multi billion cost per annum. Yes BILLIONS.
The end result: Reported last week, Aussie girls (teenagers) have the highest birth rate in the world. What has fueled this? The single mother pension. It's really skyrocketing. And you ask, Who is having the babies? Well its the girls that shouldn't be i.e. single girls who are in financial distress.
The end result is a massive financial burden on the country with a massive incentive for young women to have babies that will be subsidised by the goverment. The families will suffer due to the lack of a parent and more likely than not the vicious cycle will continue.
I know several cases of this.
Where are the "do-gooders" now that say "we have to help the singler mums". They speak their CRAP then hide behind a stone when things go bad.
The same goes for immigration. You don't have to look far back in history to see Muslims and Christians DO NOT MIX. So why let them in a non-muslim country. Absolutely Stupid. And our tax dollars are paying for this.
