I think that putting people on ignore devalues them and is another way of saying "Shut up! You have nothing to say." It is also a convenient way to avoid any views contrary to your own. So I have nobody on ignore, even though it gets tempting from time to time. :)
(However I can understand it's use over in the stock section where you have to deal with rampers and the like.)
