firstly the previous substantial holders in CNP, such as MCQ, UBS, Barclays etc do not own the stock for their own investment purposes but rather as nominees for funds they manage. That is MCQ does not actually own the shares it has lost money on, rather those losses accrue to the investment holders in the managed funds.
Secondly... MCQ has shown no problem raising debt in recent times and the argument that cheap money is no longer only serves to reduce the competition in the market for infrastructure assets. Unlike CNP, MCQ has not bought poor quality assets at the top of the market, but rather owns (if you bothered to check closely) mostly monopoly assets, with stable long-term cash-flows and conservative gearing given the nature of the assets.
Expect MCQ to continue to outperform. Current volatility is driven by ongoing sub-prime concerns which so far have had little actual effect on the MCQ model.
They're people are a lot smarter than you buddy. I should know.
