You asked about growing franchises. Here are a few quality franchises RFG is up against.
Coffee Club (400 + locations) Coffee Clubs are usually packed to capacity, thanks to generous loyalty promotions and quality offerings. Compare the customers in a Coffee Club to the nearest Michel's patisserie. Michels will be near empty.
    Zarraffas (90 locations)

Soul Origin (80+ stores and run by a former Michels manager) Soul Origin is the type of coffee/healthy place Olivers could take a good look at and follow.

    Dome Coffee(65+ locations WA based)

    Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses (75+ stores)

    Cheesecake shop (220+ locations)

    Some other franchise chains:
    Muzzbuzz (45+)

    Hudsons (65=)

    CiBO (SA)

Lava Coffee (250 + Locations. Formerly ran Cafe2U which was purchased by RFG)

    Little Sparrow

    Jolly Miller

    Theobroma

    Brio Coffee & Healthy Food
    Coffee Guru

    The Good Bean

Unfortuneatly, when comparing any of these chain models with a Michel's patisserie or Gloria jeans, the offerings , coffee selection, decor look stale and tired at the RFG businesses.

This doesn't even cover the plethora of amazing independent coffee shops opening up on weekly basis across Australia. These cafes , with an ability to offer niche products and experiences, largely outperform the franchise model and are nimble in adapting to changing market conditions. Australians enjoy the independent coffee culture (the failure of Starbucks who closed 60+ stores evidence of this) and future growth will be in this sector, or franchises with small store clusters offering excellent coffee.

These independent coffee shops are the real competition for RFG and the above mentioned chains

If we asked a panel of independent coffee drinkers to rank the coffee/experience for all the above mentioned businesses , where would the RFG offerings sit? I'm guessing close to dead last or at least bottom 10%

As for your assertion RFG has a unique health product mix. What part of their operations is a health product mix?

Do you mean the Donuts @ Donut king?

The 6 month old cakes at Michels?

    The Pizza at capers?

The bacon and cheese pies at Brumbys?

I am happy to be educated with hard facts
