    May not be a need for accountant to calculate the capital gains.

    They'd be a pre-CGT asset (aquired prior to the introduction of CGT on 20 September 1985) and so exempt from CGT. Salty would lose substantial tax benefits by selling these (if they continue with these impressive capital gains). Maybe Salty would be better borrowing against the shares (but ask accountant if this creates a CGT event or changes the pre-CGT status of the shares such that further capital gains become taxable when the shares are sold)

    By the way does anyone here know what the compund annual return on Orica shares has been over the last 20 years? I think I saw this quoted somewhere-similar sort of performance as Westfield Trust when it was listed here.
