"The Eagle Ford shale play is calcareous shale that falls inside the time of Cretaceous. The major Eagle Ford shale extends laterally from Maverick County of west Texas to the Burleson County and beyond in east Texas as illustrated in Fig.1. The Eagle Ford shale lies over the Buda Limestone while overlain by the Austin Chalk as shown in Fig.2. According to analyses of current core and log data published, the Eagle Ford shale's structural characteristics vary significantly across the play. The depth varies from 2,500 to 14,000 feet; the thickness ranges from 20 to 500 feet; matrix porosities are from 5% to 14%; matrix permeabilities range from 40 to 1300 nano-darcies (nd) and total organic carbon (TOC) is from 0.7% to 9.2%."
