Unfortunately I can see little reason for the government subsidizing AGL.
The state of its share price , certainly not a reason.
If the company goes broke , then somebody else will take over the assets and life moves on.
Electrons will flow regardless.
When AGL was north of 18 bucks , there was no suggestion that they should make an outsize contribution to treasury because they were doing so well.
That's capitalism . Regulatory changes certainly a problem , but that is what you take on when you are in this sort of business.
Any government money might be better off being paid to buy back the assets from the administrator , on the cheap , if that ever eventuated.
