Australian giant to set up steel plant in Kurnool district
Australian mining giant NSL Consolidated has been given in-principle clearance by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for setting up an integrated steel plant through its Indian subsidiary NSL Mining India (NMI), along with Wei Hua Group Co. Ltd and other companies from China, at Orvakal in Kurnool district.
The project is estimated to cost Rs.3000 crore. NMI has mining operations in Kurnool, where it has established an iron ore extraction facility, beneficiation and a pellet plant with an investment of nearly Rs. 1,800 crore.
NSL specialises in iron ore extraction, particularly low-grade iron ore.
The NSL’s beneficiation plant was set up with Chinese collaboration as Chinese technology is suitable for extracting such low-grade iron (with high silica content) as is available in Kurnool district, according to official sources.

A.P. team in China to attract investments
A high-level business delegation from Andhra Pradesh (A.P.), led by its Economic Development Board (EDB) CEO J. Krishna Kishore, participated in the Cross-Border Investment and Trade Fair at Guizhou Inland Opening-up Pilot Economic Zone in China on Thursday. The delegation met Guizhou Province Vice-Governor Qin Rupei and other government officials.
According to official sources, Mr. Rupei shared his vision on creating congenial business relations between the two countries, and said China and India had a natural synergy in leveraging their respective strengths in various sectors through mutual collaboration. “The Guizhou Province, which is China’s 8th open economic zone having a complete ecosystem comprising education, manufacturing, skill development, tourism and healthcare sectors, is keen on fostering relations with A.P. for mutually beneficial investments,” he stated.
Mr. Krishna Kishore invited companies there to invest in India’s first Coastal Economic Zone coming up in A.P. and requested Mr. Rupei to appoint an official from the Guizhou Province on the EDB advisory board.

Chinese keen to set up steel unit at Orvakal

Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy has appreciated the Chinese delegates, who have come forward for setting up steel fertilisation factory near Orvakal. He participated in a meeting held with the Chinese delegates at command control room here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Murthy assured delegates that the State government will extend all support for establishing the steel unit. The Deputy CM stated that the government is ready to allocate 250 acres of land for iron-ore fertilization [likely pelletisation] and another 750 acres for setting up the factory at Orvakal. “Besides, allocation of land, the government will also facilitate to get necessary approvals required for the factory,” he added. He said an iron unit is successfully running at Bethamcherla where locals were employed in large numbers.
The Minister urged the Chinese delegates to generate more employment after establishing the steel factory. The government has taken measures to transform Kurnool into smart city on war-foot basis, he stated.
District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan said Kurnool has bestowed with abundance of iron ore. He assured delegates that the district administration will ensure every support for setting up steel factory. He said there is no scarcity of water and power shortage and Orvakal is an ideal place for setting up the unit. Roads stretching to 520 kilometres have been laid in the last two years besides construction of drains and many other developmental works in the district, the Collector informed foreign delegates. “As many as 15,000 unemployed youth would get jobs from the industries that are likely to set up at Orvakal,” he said. NSL Director DN Rao said that they will inspect the suitable places as the Chinese delegation has come forward for setting up steel factory.

MNCs likely to invest Rs 4,800 crore in Kurnool district

Kurnool: Kurnool district, which has more than 33,000 acres of government land identified for industrialisation, has become an attractive proposition for setting up industries that could generate employment in thousands. Australian and Chinese companies are evincing keen interest in investing in the district.
NSL Consolidate of Australia offering to come to Kurnool is a significant as it has the technology to convert low grade iron ore, which is available locally, into high grade.
The proposed investments would include an integrated steel plant and four beneficiation units at Orvakal, according to officials.
Kurnool District Industries Centre general manager Somesh Kumar said that a high level Australian and Chinese delegation is currently visiting the district to assess the feasibility of the project.
He said that the high-level Chinese delegation has visited the proposed site at Orvakal mandal, 30 km from the district headquarters.
The purpose of the visit it is learnt was to finalise aspects of the pellet and steel plant pre-feasibility and meet with relevant pellet and steel plant stakeholders.

Wei Hua Group Co Ltd, Shandong Province Metallurgical Engineering Company, Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Group Co Ltd, China Metallurgical Group Corporation and Huate Magnetism are the other Chinese companies actively involved with NSL in the joint venture in the area of technology transfer.
Sources close to the development said that one key enabler to the execution of the MoU was the GoAP committing to the development of the Orvakallu Mega Industrial Hub, located in the Kurnool district some 30 km from NSL's existing operations.
This 28,000 acre hub will include access to water, power, rail and road and is also proposed for one of AP's four Greenfield airports outlined in the strategic infrastructure plan for the state.
It is also learnt that the company proposes to utilise this industrial hub as a foundation for the binding agreement with Wei Hue, and continues to leverage the GoAP MOU, with discussions on providing the approvals for the land, power, water and other utilities for the steel project JV already commenced.
Wei Hua Group Co Ltd Wei Hua Group Co Ltd, with revenues in excess of US$1 billion in 2015, has already acquired key components of the proposed steel making plant. These are warehoused in China and ready for deployment, with the remainder to be purchased as required, based on Indian progress.
