I have to agree with jd! One of the things everyone is down on the Chinese about is that it is a 'command' economy ie at the command of the govt. Australia has a mixed economy or free enterpise and it operates effectively like that. Neither Liberal or Labour govts would touch these sort of investments and nor should they.
I am really suprised tha BHP hasn't snapped up LYC. This exact question was asked of Nick Curtis at a AGM a few years ago and he said that BHP would not buy LYC he didn't give reasons but I would have thought being 'cashed up' after the failed RIO to LYC would have been a great acquistion for BHP.
