Not sure I agree with your comments. Gen z and millennials would have their cards in their mobile wallets to start with. Also, unlike a credit or debit card Afterpay take the funds on the 14-day mark so if an Afterpay customer will have loads of small transactions then they must manage. Not so with credit and debit cards.
From a merchant's point of view, they now not only need to absorb or pass on the UBER EAT or other aggregators' charges but also the BNPL 5-7% charges. I don't see how this will grow the merchants' businesses, but I do see the potential for a rise in bad debts for the BNPL platforms. CBA StepPay can only be used for purchases greater than $100. I wonder why??
