For many people it's their very first lender. Many young people entering the workforce in some capacity (perhaps part time whilst studying, perhaps full time) don't have an established history with a bank and providers like Zip are a lot simpler, quicker and generally more attractive and accessible than credit cards.
You keep calling them lenders of last resort, but for many they are a preferred lender.
The world has changed and you have decided to dismiss it because it goes against what you are familiar and comfortable with.
