"HOW TO INVEST IN THE FUTURE TODAY"
"Artificial intelligence
AI, or machine learning, will soon be a part of our everyday lives too. In fact, Vodacom is already using AI to drive sales of tailored data and voice bundles by allowing AI to learn how individual customers use these services and which bundles they are most likely to purchase, based on usage and historic purchasing behaviour. There are bigger players out there, though, that are doing arguably much more exciting things.
Take Salesforce, for example. Salesforce is a cloud computing giant that provides customer relationship management software and services to business. In 2017, it launched its Einstein Analytics platform that analyses customer data and provides business with more useful and actionable information than ever before.
Google is working on software that can not only make phone calls to real humans and sound like a real person, but can make bookings at hairdressers and order takeaways. It can even interpret subtle changes in tone and communicate effectively with real humans who struggle to speak English as a first language or have strong accents. The aim of this AI is to be a personal assistant that is accessible to the public and businesses to help them save time and resources by allowing the AI to perform the more mundane tasks. It must be said that this is only one of the many projects Google has on the go now.
In truth, there are just too many AI projects and companies to mention here, but it is worth mentioning that AI is expected to create more than 800,000 new jobs and add $1.1tr to global GDP by 2021, according to a Morgan Stanley research note published in April 2018. On the other hand, there are some threats to traditional professions, like the legal industry. AI has been shown to do a great job with interpreting contracts and laws and conducting litigation. Companies to watch in this space include the two already mentioned as well as Delphi Automotive, Baidu, Nvidia, Veritone, QuickLogic and BrainChip."
