if you can, go for the root, not the branches
knock out their water supply, they breed in stagnant water
my neighbour had a stagnant water trough (mosquito nursery) in his backyard and i couldn't go down the back yard in the evening.
i found the right time to suggest removing it, and he did, thank god.
