Yes, a few years ago it looked like US conventional gas reserves were running down, like oil reserves. Gas prices were three times what they are today. Then first CSG, later shale gas came along, completely changing the game.
A greater concern for Australia is perhaps that China and India, where much of the new LNG market growth is expected in coming decades, will also discover large reserves of unconventional gas. However, they are both large coal importers despite having huge reserves of coal, so perhaps that won't destroy the market.
