Don't believe everything you read about how much is sitting in vaults. A number of banks who 'have' gold stocks have lent this out to borrowers who have sold it for required funds. Since the price of gold is now much higher they will pay the banks back in currency rather than physical gold - this means that the stocks some banks have on record don't actually exist!
