Thanks Arkacia. I'm not sure whether I've mentioned it on the CFU thread or not, but I did post my thoughts on the Politics Forum. I personally believe the Carbon Tax is actually a Peak Oil mitigation Policy. It is Legislation aimed at significantly reducing the Carbon Intensity of our Energy production.

A Communist Gov't like China can simply Dictate the required changes in Infrastructure to prepare for a Terminal Decline in World Oil Production. Have a look at how aggressively China is pursuing Renewable Energy...
Not so easy to achieve in a Democracy run by "the Free Markets". Thus the need for a Market pricing mechanism to facilitate the required changes:
