Qantas may do ok for shareholders but will hurt the Australian tourism industry, Could be why Flight Centre etc down. Not good for the country at all. Without the Qantas brand and a national carrier Australia airline ticket sales are redundant really. Qantas as a term means more to Australian tourism than to Qantas shareholders who feel it would be better to transfer the entire operation offshore but need to trash the brand to get around Qantas Sale Act. So they build up Jetstar by transfer of good numbers to them and the bad numbers to Qanats, set up self companies to employ overseas pilots and other subsideries run Qantas itself into the ground.
