    >> I really can't for the life of me understand why anyone would still consider this a buy or as some have said -'good gamble' when other quality stocks like SLR exist?

cumlaudemagnum, I own both and agree SLR is a great looking stock, but is SLR really worth 2.5x what AXM is??

    Market Cap
    SLR - $134m
    AXM - $53
    As of 01/09/09 close

    Gold
    SLR - Resources: 1.5m/oz
    AXM - Reserves: .5m/oz - Resources: 3.4m/oz
Both have potential to increase these figures.

    Production
    SLR - 60koz/year - Short Term Target: 120koz/year
    AXM - 68koz/year - Short Term Target: 150koz/year

Please correct my figures if not correct (targets were off the top of my head).

Sure there are other factors like AXMs higher cost per ounce to mine, debt/hedging which SLR doesn't have and SLR has a good cash position and is cash positive (it's unclear where AXM is here), but still AXM looks cheap to me. Also if gold does increase significantly in price the differences like hedging and higher cost per ounce will not be so noticeable.
