Toxic run-off worsens

Supporters of rare earths and uranium hopeful Greenland Minerals have become particularly aggressive on market chat site HotCopper since an Inuit-led party won the election six weeks ago.

The punters have every reason to be anxious because the Chinese-backed outfit’s share price has halved amid anxiety about the new government’s tough anti-uranium policy and concerns about toxic run-off from the Kvanefjeld project.

The HotCopper rant included lines like “self-avowed lefts and hypochondriac environmental junkies” making dangerous promises to their “dimwit followers”.

All bad fun you might say, but rival southern Greenland rare earths project proponent Greg Barnes said the rants were damaging Australia’s reputation there and could make it harder to get approvals.

With the missile-mad Yanks also eyeing rare earth deposits, there is a lot at stake here.”
