No More Practice has unveiled a new leadership video series for the financial services sector, co-hosted by industry veteran and former FPA chief executive Mark Rantall.

Known as After Hours, the online series is aiming to become the first late-night talk show for the sector and will feature a range of experts sharing their thoughts on long-term industry trends and developments.

Speaking to financialobserver, No More Practice group chief executive and series co-host Vanessa Stoykov said the first season, Inspirational Women, would showcase leadership by exploring the lives of prominent women in financial services, from former Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia chief executive Pauline Vamos to OneVue chief executive Connie McKeage.

The show’s inaugural season would feature an all-female line-up of guests shedding light on a diversity of topics, ranging from the importance of supporting small business to questioning the fee structures in the funds management industry, Stoykov said.

“We created this show because people are still intrigued by leadership and the challenges leaders face and they’ll be able to learn from those behaviours,” she said.

“The [advice] industry isn’t bursting at the seams with demand, it’s doing very well, but it’s mainly doing so well because of compulsory superannuation, so [it’s about] how do we engage people more.

“This is part of us committing to make the industry better and giving [viewers] the opportunity to explore leadership, understand what it takes and how people think as leaders in this industry.”

New episodes would be released each Wednesday evening and hosted on the No More Practice website.

Commenting on the announcement, Rantall said the show would appeal to a broad array of viewers, regardless of what leadership role or career stage they were in.

After Hours works to uncover the prime motivators: what drives them, why they get out of bed in the morning and how they’ve got to the level they have,” Rantall said.

“We’ve got a unique opportunity to learn from industry leaders about what they got right, but, importantly, also what they got wrong.”

Stoykov said that by highlighting the challenges, journeys and learnings of some of the sector’s most inspiring female leaders, the industry stood to benefit and could continue to encourage the next wave of aspiring advisers.

“There’s an element of courage that’s required now to take this industry forward … a lot of these women are high profile, but they haven’t gone out of their way to be heard,” she said.

“It’s actually really interesting to understand their backgrounds, what makes them tick and what their challenges are, and I think it will encourage more people to step up.”
