I've had a night to think about what this abstract means.

In my days as a scientific researcher, most scientific societies would not have accepted an abstract such as the one in the earlier posting. One would at least have stated the degree of the effect eg a 30 % reduction in viral count or some such. It's just an example of how the influence of commerce corrupts all systems even in the scientific world.

    What does it all mean?

In my simple mind, there can be but two interpretatioons. Either the data though significant statistically are insignificant numerically. eg a 2% change in viral load might be statistically different from the placebo or untreated group but 2% is just a drop in the bucket and not meaningful in a clinical context.

    Or,

There is some sort of game being played and data are being deliberately withheld in the name of wheeling and dealing with the big pharmas.

    Anyone have other ideas?
