I think what you see and are complaining about is more to do with social inertia...
Socialist government put in place socialist policies to increase the portion of the population dependent on welfare, destroy private industry to create unemployment, increase crime and social problems and make people more dependent and demanding of an ever bigger, more intrusive and more intrusive government to controls every aspect of society and separates the warring factions that the government policies have created and fanned...
When a "less socialist" government then gets power, they generally start a process to repair the social damage done by the previous socialist government but due to the enormous social inertia of the problems created, it will never be completely repairable and of any government paying less welfare to the welfare-dependent, putting people to work and cutting social benefits to pay down debt will be unpopular and only stay in government for 1 or 2 terms...
