Perhaps picking out the 1 share sale as an indication that manipulation occurred was a mistake. However I looked at the closing figures and felt sure they were being steered towards a drop in price. I did it today and felt sure I saw the signs. A number of times I have taken a number of snapshots of the price/volume movements to try and work out how they do it but it's too time consuming, nobody is interested so what's the point.
On days like we have been having there is virtually no hope of the price going up in the end of day auction.
Yet what regularly occurs is someone offers to sell a small parcel of shares at a price lower than could have been easily obtained on the buy side for the 5 or 10 minutes (at least) before the auction started.

I goes something ( not exactly! but something) like this...
very few shares being sold....
buy 100 shares @20 sell 100 shares @ 21
sits like that till 4pm, then

buy 100 shares @20 sell 50 shares @ 19
sell 100 shares@ 21
then
buy 51 shares @ 21 sell 50 shares @19
buy 100 shares@20 sell 100 shares @21

Please don't pick holes in the actual numbers, I've made them up - but this is what happens.
There is every reason for the 5o shares to have been sold a few minutes earlier for a price of 20 if that was the real intention.
