At some point there has to be a trade off between blindly pursuing economic growth and saving human life. There are obvious drawbacks to shutting down the economy- businesses will fail, people will lose their jobs, economic growth will stagnate- but countless lives will be saved. At this juncture it is the role of the government to provide support for businesses and individuals. How many people have to die before economic growth becomes unimportant?
