Well 2023 and 2024 have involved a bit of catch up as potential overseas students delayed international travel and study due to COVID. The surge was unsustainable but some players were treating it as the new normal.

All parties are quoting figures that support their own arguments and the tabloid media is omitting necessary context. ABC had a spokesperson for G8 Universities on drive yesterday. When asked if the universities had considered whether having 50%+ foreign students in many courses was impacting quality of education generally and local students specifically she basically said that the government should do that work. So this isn't something they should care about? Hopeless.

University Executives are now so full of management consultants in their ranks pushing revenue targets they no longer give a rats about the quality of education unless it impacts on their international rankings.

I'm broadly sympathetic to the Unis in this debate but some of their rhetoric is nonsense. If the G8 end up badly impacted at the end of this they should consider themselves partly responsible.
