Companies shouldn't diversify for the sake of diversification. Shareholders can adjust the diversification they want at their share holdings level. I still think they would have been better of simply doing one thing correctly (mining gold from their existing mine) rather than diversifying. Especaily when the takeover is paid with undervalued shares (assuming management can actualy reach forcasts).
