supertramp, i too like the idea of giving the Greeks the flick,they dont deserve to be in it in the first place having lied on their application form and worse still those Euromats in Brussels knew they were lying and that they couldnt meet the entry critera

Then along comes the muppets in Brussels who decide that not only the Greeks but also the Irish would be great bed fellows,well you dont need to be a Rhodes scholar to see how that has worked out,20,000 Irish arriving in Australia in search of work is testament to that There hasent been a bigger exodus since the potato famine and the lazy Greeks would follow suit if they could muster the energy.
The whole thing is a farce when you consider some of the members.Slovenia,Slovakia,Cyprus and Malta to name a few. An idea dreamt up in the beer halls of Berlin and the wine bars of Paris who are now paying the price for its folly
Luckily for the Brits their leaders saw the writing on the wall and walked away, much to the dismay of the other two
I too have spent a lot of time in Germany but i dont have such a romantic idea about the place as perhaps you do.The reason why everything you buy there is German is because following the war there was nothing to be had,they even offered to sell off Volkswagon to both repay their debt to the world but also to get some $US, who declined the offer. (what fools now ,almost as bad as the Ruskies selling off Alaska)
The Germans created a complete industrial philosphy among their own and bartered what they had and only bought from one another partly due to the fact that no one wanted to know them and were too busy rebuilding their own,by the time the rest of Europe and the US fully recovered from the effects of war there were no markets for them to penetrate. The Japs are just the same,the door was closed and as conquered nations their national pride wouldnt let the victors in,not much has changed since
The rest of the world won the battle but those two countries won the war
