Singapore – SK-II MAGNETIC WAND trade mark application filed

This was the first publicly available information that, with the benefit of hindsight, clearly evidences the anticipated launch of the SK-II MAGNETIC WAND four months later. We may speculate as to the reasons why Singapore was chosen by P&G ahead of other countries. However, I suspect the most likely reason is that P&G have a real and effective industrial operation in Singapore, and the Singapore Trade Mark Office acts as an international conduit from which all other trade mark applications filed in other countries stem. Once the progress of the Singapore Trade Mark Office application reaches a certain point (i.e. it appears the application will be granted), applications in other countries all follow.

One might suspect that P&G’s trade mark attorneys may have jumped the gun by a few days in light of how other trade mark attorneys around the world were co-ordinating their application filing (see below).
