I visit the USA on a regular basis, everything seems quite normal to me given that we are living in the shadow of the GFC.

Lots of people everywhere took excessive risks and now they're paying the price. You do the opposite of what the crowd do.

I sold property, paid off the mortgage, converted my superannuation to 50% cash before the GFC, life's pretty sweet.
