You need to have Direct market access or live depth.

This way you can participate in the opening and closing auctions, and get your shares for the match price. That price is then where the stock opens and closes at for the day.

There is some one playing around currently (BOT) and is adjusting the number of shares by 1 to make the match price what they want. They do this within seconds of any order being placed or modified so makes it hard, but when it was obvious they wanted it to open at 10c today I was happy to oblige.
