Davo if you are not being sarcastic your brain is as scrambled as the killer. No one in Australia wants soldiers with any sort of weapon spread through shopping centres and other public areas. Most places have security guards and they should be sufficient. They could be armed with non lethal weapons.
A security guard on his first day at work was one of the casualties, we don't know whether he was caught by surprise or was confronting the attacker. Certainly if he had been a bit more experienced/better trained or just less unlucky the whole situation may have been diffused earlier and he may have been a hero now.
