Although south africa has an unsafe reputation,its kruger park has managed to get me back later this year. seriously if you have been displeased with tour safaris in the past then an independently driven 5 day stay in the park is worth a go. Botswana for a 2 week version of the same is also on my list but the lack of fencing around camps has the girlfriend spooked.
