Even though I'm just back from the US I would go over to the east coast and see the Hamptons. A couple of Christmases ago my eldest son gave me a book called Phillistines on the Hedgerow, a most sombre looking cover, I must say. It took a more than a couple of starts to get into it, but I perservered and eventually enjoyed it. The book was a history of the Hamptons and the Montauk Indians and quite fascinating, if somewhat heavy going. Come the next ratings period on TV and the the TV programme called Revenge (Channel 7) started and of course I was captivated because it is set in the Hamptons. Have yet to see any of the historical gardens documented in the book but I will find them one day!
