The thing that HASN'T been covered - and may be what swuzzle is alluding to, is people buying 'on credit' from their online brokers today or tomorrow.
IF those people sold on Wednesday, without actually settling the account with their brokers, they would NOT have ANY of those shares registered to their account.

So of course, you have to settle the shares to own them in the first place.
This is what teefer was alluding to earlier - it will NOT be an attractive deal for temps.......
