great link ash... the end of the article sent me down the rabbit hole with another link to quantum computing, which I have been following with some interest.
There is already some commercial scale, battery tech using bromide (salt water) - such as ASX share Redflow, but the work IBM are doing here in regards to use in planes and vehicles is another leap altogether... I have previously mentioned how great Li-Ion is for us at IFN - with my concerns on its effective life... the next level of battery tech is definitely needed to make grid scale batteries last longer - and to ideally fill that gap between generation and LT storage such as PH, plus all the juicy value added services that batteries are proving they do so well
@strangelogic - agreed that there will need to be recycling industries developed for the renewable industry - apparently wind farm assets do not recycle well... and there is an abundance of solar panels being collected now that have surpassed their effective lives, but the labour costs involved in removing the components worth salvaging are currently too great. There is a business in VIC that is making great strides in mechanising the process though - so industry will come around when the need (and return) is really there.
