The market regulators are not concerned about the grid... they make new generation supply conform to how the grid currently operates
there are many plays that can be made there... but realistically - there are only so many that will be able to take over the night time baseload requirements that our coal generators currently provide... I see pumped bydro as being a very real option here... solar is great when the sun shines... but its direct supply to market during the day is making it day time pricing discover new floors... wind is great - but also intermittent...lithium batteries are great for cars... but can they provide 12 hours of supply? molten salt is also a storage option... but there is limited tech available and its not yet commercial... hot rock tech?
