Batteries are a very interesting development. Installed next to a generator, particularly a variable one like solar or wind, they serve to regulate output to what is bid into the market for - and not a volt more or less.
This optionality of despatch will be a very powerful revenue enhancer, waste minimiser. IFN will be able to bid freely into peak pricing periods while shrugging at low prices.
While the Tesla battery sets will significantly flatten variable pricing, they will not eliminate it. A generator with batteries can deny the Tesla model the very cheap energy it seeks to arbitrage. IMHO, a battery next to a generator will be much more efficient and useful than city-based one. It optimises grid usage up to capacity.
It also makes opaque the generator's production and bidding strategy, to its considerable advantage.
The battery set can actually be quiet small, say, two hours production, to deliver these benefits.
Battery system costs are falling and game plans are evolving quickly, which is why IFN is silent on this matter.
