    Anecdote.

    A mate who has an engineering business told me that on the previous Friday his workers were ordered off a site in Melbourne bacause their union memberships were out of date. He wasn't so annoyed except his workers expected him to pay up - they couldn't care less.

    On the Monday they were again ordered off because their Red cards (or similar) were out of date. He is adamant that business will be much tougher for him if Rudd gets in.

    I had thought that compulsory unionism on sites was against the law.
